Happy new year~!

Great to be back in Singapore... (merry belated xmas by the way)

Have some new pictures... The shot above was taken in Beijing. There're still a lot to do from previous shoots, hopefully I can finish them soon. Right... and also some interviews I did a while back, I'll update some scans and links when I have the time.

I fell and slipped down a couple steps when I was back in Beijing. My ass and elbow hurt. There are horrible bruises and swells but I worry more for my laptop which crashed down the stairs together with me. T_T

Anyway, I want to say, thank you everyone so much for your support~ let's continue working hard in the new year.

And thank you, my dearest darlings, who've been there for me all this time, never stopping at being all terrifyingly talented and accomplished and making me feel like a piece of crap, but worry not it's all good, I'll keep trying.

Random entry about anime. Feel free to skip it lol.

While in Bangkok for the Sea Games I brought along VCDs of Samurai 7 to watch for passing time. Honestly I haven't properly watched any animes since I think, Hikaru no Go? No idea how many years ago that was. (With the exception of Gundam Seed which I couldn't force myself to finish due to the horrible disgust with Kira)

Honestly I wanted to dedicate an entry to Samurai 7 and weep for the ones who died after so much character development when I came back, but I got too busy. So anyway, here's a mention, I love the anime as much as it broke my heart, I could say that I haven't felt such happiness for a long time (yes, from just watching it I was smiling like a dork from day to night). 脚本和角色的刻画真的很好⋯⋯ So go watch it if you're out of things to catch. :D It seems they're making it a movie and it's in pre-production. Ahhh something to look forward to.

Bought a couple titles when I had the chance to shop the other day, and a few pieces of h.Naoto hohoho.

Spent yesterday and this morning watching Code Geass. I like to watch things at one go... incomplete stuff make me dejected. I didn't expect that it was unfinished cuz out of the 5 titles I purchased I must have asked whether each one was completed for 3-4 of them and left this out. *bish self*

I have mixed feelings about the story, although I have to admit that it's well made. The general story structure and graphics are all good, just that it kept reminding me of GSeed (ala kiraxasuran) and feels like as if Syaoran has jumped out from Tsubasa to pilot Lancelot. Is this the product of Sunrise+Clamp? *major sweatdrop*

Anyway I'm off to watch more. Who knows if I can finish all 5 during my confinement here. It's quite inspiring, I'm already having images I want to do in my head. Hope I can get them done well in the coming new year.

And argh, thanks to blogspot for being banned, i cannot reply any comments other than making new posts. =_=

I'm procrastinating from packing. So here's a short recap of what's been happening. Hectic schedules with the printing and paper cutting. I spent 5hours odd cutting the paper.

Reckon I can make a costume outta this, really.

But anyway, gorgeous prints. The postcards were soooooo pretty. Slept at about 4am on the 15th, got up at 9 to do hair and makeup and a bit of last last min packing because I was heading to KL straight after Expo.

And me camwhoring in the cab.
Had renr helping me out for a while, but didn't dare to walk around that much. 6.30pm started packing up to rush for my bus. Reached KL about 12am, toounit picked me up. We went out to eat a bit and went over to his place, and I slept with this cutie:

Pardon the lousy camera phone quality. There's no greens, it's white as snow except for the dyed pink at the end of the ears. It's sooooooooooo cute its like a freaking living soft toy. *__*

And some random ghey Cloud dressup thing his friend did. In chocobo printed briefs. It's just so damn wrong man. =_=;;;

Anyway I haven't got much photos... sorry hehe. But really for all of you who came by to say hi, especially those who came over just to see me, thank you so so so so so much for the support, I'm so touched. T_T

Please just don't kneel down in public again I kind of don't know what to do. ^^;

After that went out for dinner with toounit's family... then rushed to catch my bus back. Got back to Singapore at about 3, reached home at about 3.30am and because I had no keys with me I had to depend on the maid but... she wouldn't wake up no matter how I phoned the home line or rang the doorbell~!!! So I got locked out until 8am in the morning when she woke up.

And now I'm down with a terrible cold. It was really freezing at that time in the morning, I did also realize that from this new place we can see a lot of stars at night. Really beautiful...

And man what's with the new cab fare? Called a cab in the evening to Fullerton, it was freaking 27bucks! Wtf?!?!

Back to packing.

After battling with time and everything else for the last 10 days, I have somehow made it out alive amongst these emails, interviews, unopened copies of Spectrum 14, Exotique3, Fantasy Art Now from the publishers, my 5-6yo PC that declared dead, last minute printings, paper cutting, retouching, booking of bus ticket to KL and back, and a slot of The Warlords (which has inconsistent lighting on set) in between.

Yes, not dead. You will see me tomorrow and at CF on the 16th. My booth at Expo is A6, before you enter the hall with the stage. I'll try not to repeat my wardrobe, surely no bulky stuff this year because I've to carry the outfit to Malaysia too.

I'm thinking I shouldn't have done too many laminated prints this year, it cuts into my margin pretty deep, and argh, I really do need a new desktop. Well hope to see you!

Saturday, December 8, 2007

I'd been sitting at my laptop trying to reply emails for the last 3 days and I'm still not done. Not to mention a deadline I missed for an interview I promised to do. The best thing that's happening is my site is suddenly not working on Safari and Mozilla in Mac, Mozilla/IE on Windows still works fine (for me). It used to work in the past!

Now I have to spend time to figure out what's wrong and I have this feeling that I'm going to end up having to redo the whole bloody site. And such a task I'd prefer to do it on Dreamweaver on my PC and it just happens that BOTH my mouse AND keyboards decide to give way now. I mean, fine, it's been some 5, 6 years. But now of all time. T_T

Grrr.

But since I'm blogging, here's something from Bangkok.

I'd meant to have more but I only shopped once more on the last day in the end. Had the honour of meeting up with some really nice local artists there, vic-mon, asuka111, rei-i and tako~ Thank you for making my stay so memorable, you were great company. I also had a shoot with rei. :D

I'd put up photos from the trip and the photoshoot when I'm done with the emails. Hopefully. Now I just need a lot of sleep because I'm not even thinking or answering anything properly anymore.

And oh man my backlog of photos is scary.

Loy Krathong Festival

Saturday, November 24, 2007

Well, despite all that painful hours in the bus yesterday (the driver got lost, driving us from one hotel to another within a few MRT stops took 3hours), we ran into the Loy Krathong festival held once a year here in Thailand~ Found some info on it on wiki and here.

It's held on the 12th fullmoon in the traditional Thai calendar. People will go to their local canal/river to release their krathong.

Mine =3

Someone praying before releasing hers.

And some people release theirs:
and...Like a river of stars... beautiful isn't it?

This was the nearest location to us, not a major one. Heard there're fireworks at the bigger ones like near the palace. It was very nice though.

Tomorrow we're moving into the official hotel, Grand Mecure. The one we'd been staying in is a boutique hotel called Veronica Residence. The design's not bad but the quality and convenience of things are kind of terrible. The water pressure is so miserable the amount of time it takes to rinse my hair is not even funny.

PS: I'm really curious, why is it that when I am in Singapore I never get a single wrong number call in like a thousand days, but when I'm overseas I get at least 4-5 EACH trip. Grrrr.

Gundam 00

Thursday, November 22, 2007

Can someone explain to me why it looks so freaking much like Gundam Wing?! The mobile suits look so much like replicas T_T But but I wanna watch~~~ It looks so much more exciting than GSeed, kira was just too much a wimp for me to finish that series.

I did read reviews saying that it's almost like remaking GW for the modern audience, but oh well... will see how it turns out. Somehow I don't fancy the fashion sense of current-day anime =.= Oh man I feel old, GW was actually 1995...

It's been so long since I'd watched any anime, all the seiyuus I liked seem to have disappeared ._.

Friday, November 16, 2007

I get so jealous every time I look at artists' blogs because they look so... artsy. and fun. and well, artsy. And... you know... artsy.

It's not like I do not sketch and plan for my shoots (rarely, really. Although when i do sketch i hardly follow, or when i follow they hardly turn out like the sketches, and the sketches are horrible to begin with anyway, so why're they needed again?), but those papers just always disappear.

I promise the next time I have one I will keep them and make a little "zemotion's photoshooting zero to zero" with sketches, wip pics and much much more. From zero to shooting to finishing to how the next one begins, in hopes of decorating this little space just a little more. In fact, maybe I'll sketch up the whole thing.

On a second note, rummaging through things I'd done for school. There's a surprisingly large amount of writings and pictures I've long forgotten, I've even designed a set of underwear before. XD

The eye lingers a little longer on something because it is more intensely interesting than something else that's usually seen. Sometimes it's contradicting, sometimes, it's never understood.

Some of the last lines I wrote for the set, it's like, 2 pages long. x_x

And so, out of curiosity, the digging continues.

More photos, more writings, more sketches, more, and more, and more. Ahhh and melodies sounding half Bach and half opening-theme-song-ish, it's so random but they aren't that bad at all, pity they're only a couple bars long and I never finished any. Hehe.

Something epic is going to happen on Sunday. Epic~ Epic desu!

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

In the beginning, or somewhere at some point of time near what started this all, I'd prayed and yearned for one day that X Japan will return. And when they do, I'd definitely be at their Live no matter what.

I'm probably being a little too dramatic, but chatting with Eric (mizeryFree keyboards) reminded me just how much my flame of love for X still burns.

Ahhh too many things going on at once.

Anyway, for EOY and CF, please email me the prints you'd like to reserve so I can keep track which ones to surely have a copy or two since I'm not printing everything. You know the usual drill. Take your pick from here and here.

Oops. In the case of not knowing how it works, just email me and I'll let you know. :P

A lot of drama today. But I'm so very inspired by all these things.

Attended Broncolor's seminar today too, the light's quality is really amazing... it was unreal.

By the way, here's my little travel schedule, in case you're trying to catch me:

27th Nov - 5 Dec - SEA Games Bangkok
15 Dec - EOY - I'll be selling Kuang Hong's prints as well as mine.
16 Dec - ComicFiesta - Kuala Lumpur, same as above.
17 - 31th Dec - Beijing

A Silent Melody

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

A song without words.

Self portrait. The hair and makeup for this shoot took me almost 3 hours, you can't really tell here, but you'll see when I update the other shots later on. It was a long shoot... 11 to 6. The last time I'd done self portraits was February, this is probably the longest session yet.

MPA's finally over, both the grading that I'd written about in the previous entry, and a seminar conducted by David Oliver together with the Master Photographer competition that was held on the 2nd day.

Here're some photos from during preparations.. I always forget to take them. So there's only these few.

First few run of proofs, the 2 from Forgotten Fairytales. Tried on almost a dozen different papers and profiles. I remember myself having a bad migraine just having troubles with deciding.

Settled on the paper, more proofs.

Final prints, mounted.

and more prints...

My works won in 5 categories: Commercial/Advertising, Fashion, Black& White, Avant Garde Portrait and Classical Portrait. I was also the winner for the Singapore Master Photographer 2007.

Thank you Ryan and James for the support and making it possible. It was a great learning experience, also to Jonathan, William, Damien, Eric, Ukay, you guys were such fun to be with. :D

Here's one testing them out large. Like, 33x44"? Look amazing huh. *__*

Well that's all for today, I'm really tired from the shoot. Gotta figure out how to fix this macbook pro tomorrow. As usual it's screwing up on me again. Refusing to read anything from the USB. Gah~~

Sunday, November 4, 2007

So I've gotten my Associateship for Master Photographers Association's grading today. I was told by the judges that I'm the youngest in the organization worldwide *_* (they have about 2000 members, in which about 350 are associates and 250 are fellowships).

Well, I'm done with school. Maybe you can make it a temporary withdrawal that becomes permanent, say like, Hyung Tae Kim? XD

Anyway, out of boredom a few nights ago, I made a friend get blogger too~ check it out here: nd chow

I even made his banner lor, DI work inclusive. *coughs* though it's colours only *cough* lalala~

but then again, it's a pretty picture, so it's okay. he's a really good photographer in japan, so do check out his site too. he's singaporean <3

Stardust.

The movie's brilliant, what can I say. To the point I was grinning from ear to ear when leaving the cinema feeling like the happiest person on earth.

OF course, aside from the fact that I thought the poster was mildly disappointing, Neil Gaiman is a complete genius, and I'd probably die to shoot for one of his works one day (if they get made into films again), the pacing's great, the cast was good, the sets are so photoshootable, the scores unbelievably loving. No fault really. (It's also possible that I'm just overwhelmed because it's Neil Gaiman, then again, my best friend agreed the movie was good, he's generally a person who usually says good things are only alright)

It's a really short entry, I know I haven't updated much but there, this deserves an entry on it's own. <3

Getting immersed in conversations about other's professions, such things interest me most of the time. Film seems fascinating, perhaps one day I'd try doing 3-5min clips.

We sat down and talked about the industries, people, food, living, movies, scripts, and love. There's actually a man at our table who hasn't kissed in all 26 years of his life. Not I alone but the others also couldn't believe there's such an existence.

It's been a fulfilling, fun, and fattening week. Meeting new people, emptying my account for Profoto, getting my pictures printed A3 on Hahnemühle paper, making them seemingly unreal. Seriously. Too fucking beautiful.

Wonderful things are happening, I just need to see the doctor before I collapse while crossing the road. I am falling asleep every waking moment I could take my mind off things from, it's really really bad.

Photos from a long time back. I can't believe I took so long, but I gotta admit it's a lot. I can hardly convince myself I did it. Model is Xiao Rong, makeup by Joanna, photos by me and, my name is spelt as Zhang Jingna, not Zhang Jing Na. Keep the Jing and the na together, ok? <3
