scratched as in the glass?
Don't you have a protecting filter on the lens? I know it's a little late now but I always have a UV filter on for protecting the lens (UV filter has little to no effect on photos but will stop most objects from scratching the lens).

Sorry to hear about your loss during the shoot. that... yeah it does

Sad... Just like the time when I accidentally dented my amp and had to buy a new one... =.=

Sorry to hear that :(
Just like Peter said, many people use UV filter as a lens protection.

uv filter takes something away from the images, i can't quite place my words on what. so i don't like to use them.

otaku-chan: oh oh what amp~ i have a small one too. XD

One photographer has very old objective, its forward lens practically all has the smallest scratchs, but the objective photographes normally - the main thing that in the center of a lens there were no significant scratchs.
Test this objective on influence of this scratch on the image. It is better to do it on " a graphic scale ".

perhaps it's because you use natural lighting a lot in your shoots, that's why the uv filter takes something away?
